Fascism does not constitute a monolith but an aggregation of even conflicting forces which, held together by Mussolini’s mediating ability, contribute to determining a political direction that is not always linear. In this varied galaxy, a central role is played by union, whose connection with the party and Mussolini is not always idyllic. Behind affinities, different ways of understanding the relationship with the State emerge.
