Abstract

This article analyses the Italian republican party’s critical stance toward the Acerbo law. By examining the legislative process and the 1924 election campaign, the study reconstructs the Republican opposition’s efforts to denounce the fascist regime’s undemocratic trajectory. The inquiry adopts a comparative European perspective, focusing on electoral models such as the Weimar Republic and the French Third Republic, which the Irp regarded as exemplary frameworks of proportional representation and democratic legitimacy.
